Need another desktop clock for your home or office? No, sure, well no-one ever needs another clock. But when they're this cool something inside just screams 'I must have it!' Don't fight it I say, because as novelty alarm clocks go, this Wooden Clock is pretty nifty.
Once out the box it looks like a wooden block with no other discerning characteristics except that, oh yes, maple, very nice indeed. But, plug your Wooden Clock into the mains and its secret is revealed! Shining out of the wood like it was there all the time is a digital display showing a 24-hour clock lit by red LEDs.
The effect is mesmerising and particularly clever thanks to the boffins at the Science Museum who are behind this ingenious idea. The Wooden Clock keeps track of the time using an electronic circuit and by measuring the natural resonant vibrations of a small crystal of quartz , which accurately calculates whole seconds, minutes and hours. But as for how the numbers appear, they kept that one to themselves!
